Introduction:

This is a one-year full-time course that will enable students to gain employment in the sports and leisure industry. The points from this course can be used to gain entry to certain third level courses.

Career Opportunities:

This course is designed to facilitate students who wish to pursue employment in the areas of leisure, coaching or as a Physical Education teacher.

All the above modules are at FETAC Level 5. Additional Level 6 modules may be offered subject to demand and resources. This would facilitate progression to 2nd year in IT Tralee.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have the Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Mature students are also welcome. Selection will be made by interview.

Work Experience:

One day a week will be spent on work experience. This will introduce and prepare students for employment in their chosen areas and enable them to form links with local industry.

Course Fees:

In addition to the college fees of €150, there will be additional fees for First-Aid and Workshops.

Certification:

Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • A FETAC (Level 5) award in Sport and Recreation – DSRXX
  • Coaching Awards in Basketball
  • Nationally recognised certificates in Occupational First-Aid
  • A College Certificate
