Introduction:This is a one-year full time course offering a practical and theoretical introduction for those wishing to explore and develop their knowledge of social issues and practice. It equips the student with the basic skills to work in Community Agencies, e.g. Family Centres, Youth Organisations, Community and Voluntary Organisations and Department of Justice Projects. This course may also assist applications to certain third level institutions. Course Content:
Entry Requirements:Participants must have an interest and preferably experience in community based work. Relevant experience will be accepted in place of examination qualifications. Mature students are welcome. Suitable candidates will be selected by interview. Career Opportunities:The points from this course may be used to gain access to higher education courses. Trained support care workers are needed in the community. This growing industry can provide a wealth of opportunities for suitable, trained and qualified candidates. Work Experience:One day per week will be spent on work experience. One of the strong features of this course is the range of work experience on offer to the student. Links with Family Centres, Youth Organisations and a variety of other community groups provide a practical element essential to this course. Garda Vetting:Satisfactory Garda Vetting is a mandatory part of completing registration for this programme. Failure to obtain satisfactory Garda Vetting may result in de-registration.
