Introduction:

This one-year full time course provides an ideal opportunity for students to gain practical training in modern office software programs and equipment and equips them with secretarial and reception skills allowing them to confidently pursue careers in these areas.

    IT Tralee reserve a number of places for graduates of this course who successfully complete the three Level 6 modules giving the student an opportunity to transfer directly into Year 2 of Office Information Systems.

    Progression to a variety of third level courses through The Higher Education Links System.

    Entry Requirements:

    Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Mature Students are also welcome to apply. Places are limited and will be allocated on the basis of results, aptitude tests and interview.

    Career Opportunities:

    There is a constant demand by employers for well qualified secretaries and receptionists. Graduates find employment as clerical workers in a variety of office environments e.g. with Local Authorities, Civil Service, VEC’s, Health Boards/Hospitals, Solicitors, Insurance Companies, Banks and other Financial Service Providers, Hotel Reception Areas, Call Centres, Garages, Factory Offices, Retail Offices, Customer Service Desks, etc. Graduates will be competent to fill roles as secretaries, receptionists, front office operators, bookkeepers, data entry clerks and administrative assistants.

    Work Experience:

    Office or reception based work experience will form an important part of this course. This provides an opportunity to use skills acquired on the course in a practical setting and enables the participant to form links with local industry. Many past graduates have found employment through this experience.

    Fee of €150 applies on registration.

    Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

    • A FETAC award in Business and Secretarial Studies – BBSSX
    • A Level 6 Recognition of Achievement Certificate
    • A College Certificate
