Introduction:

This course is designed to equip students with the necessary knowledge and experience to work as a pharmaceutical assistant. This rapid developing industry provides job opportunities both in the community and hospital pharmacies.

Work may vary from dispensing over the counter medications, helping clients choose various medical aids and appliances to demonstrating and selling cosmetic based products.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have a Leaving Certificate or equivalent. Mature students including VTOS students or those with previous experience are welcome. Suitable candidates who show aptitude for the course will be selected by interview.

Career Opportunities:

This growing industry can provide a wealth of opportunities for suitably trained and qualified candidates. Points from this course may be used to gain access to higher education courses. This course may also appeal to those students wishing to pursue further study as pharmaceutical technicians.

Work Experience:

One day per week will be spent on work experience in a local pharmacy. This will introduce and prepare the students for employment in a pharmaceutical environment.

Garda Vetting:

Satisfactory Garda Vetting is a mandatory part of completing registration for this programme. Failure to obtain satisfactory Garda Vetting may result in de-registration.

Course Fees:

In addition to the College Registration Fee (€150) there will be extra charges for First-Aid.

Certification:

Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • A FETAC (Level 5) award in Community Care – DCHCC
  • A First-Aid Certificate
  • A College Certificate
