Introduction:

This course provides for students who wish to develop practical cabinet making skills. To familiarise students with the work environment of the Building Industry and prepare them for the whole world of work as furniture and cabinetmakers. The FÁS ‘Safe Pass’ legal requirement for the Building Industry will form an optional part of the course. The course is linked to third level institutes for students who wish to pursue higher education.

Entry Requirements:

Applicants should have the Leaving Certificate or equivalent, references and attend for an interview.

Career Opportunities:

Successful students may achieve apprenticeships in the following trades: Carpentry and Joinery, Furniture Making, Painting /Decorating, Furniture Design, Wood Craft, Metal Craft, Wood Turning, Painting and Decorating, Surveying, Draughting & History of Furniture Design.

Work Experience:

One day a week will be spent on work experience. This will introduce and prepare students for employment in their chosen areas and enable them to form links with local industry.

Course Fees:

Registration fee of €150 applies.

Certification:

Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • A FETAC (Level 5) award in Construction Technology – CCONT
  • A College Certificate
