Introduction:

This course aims to meet the necessary requirements of childcare supervisors and managers in relation to current childcare legislation and child protection legislation, as well as developing the skills and the expertise required to work at managerial level in childcare.

Course Aims:

  • A clear understanding of the responsibilities and skills required by the childcare supervisor
  • An awareness of the needs of young children and an ability to devise child age programmes which aids the development of young children
  • To develop interpersonal skills to help in dealing with parents, guardians as well as statutory and non- statutory organisations
  • To work with both children and their families to promote the care and education of the child
  • To have a clear understanding of the social and legal issues in relation to the welfare of children
  • Planning and implementing management and leadership skills and structures as well as activity planning and education

Entry Requirements:

A FETAC Level 5 Award

Career Opportunities:

Successful candidates will have the necessary skills to supervise and manage in the childcare field. This is a growing market, which can provide a wealth of opportunity for suitably trained candidates.

Work Experience:

Consists of a two day a week practical work experience in a childcare setting.

Garda Vetting:

Satisfactory Garda Vetting is a mandatory part of completing registration for this programme. Failure to obtain satisfactory Garda Vetting may result in de-registration.

Course Fees:

In addition to the college fees of €150, there will be additional fees for First-Aid and Workshops.

Certification:

Students who complete the course successfully qualify for:

  • A FETAC (Level 6) award in Childcare – DCXXX
  • A College Certificate
* Students who achieve a full FETAC Level 6 Childcare Supervisor Certificate may apply for entry into Year 2 of the Early Childhood Education (Hons) Degree at the Institute of Technology in Tralee.
